Combing:

Combining can create a nice, lined texture on a painted surface that resembles wallpaper. For a combing effect wall painting, you need a base coat and a different color glaze. Paint combs are accessories that you can get from many paint-selling stores in various widths.

Apply the base coat to the walls and then allow it to dry. When you work with glaze, walls should be painted in sections because combing needs to be done while the wall is still wet. Paint glaze on a section of the surface and drag a comb through wet paint. Use it only once for creating a trail of comb lines. But in case you are not happy with a section, you can repaint it and try combining again.

Combing can be done in straight horizontal or vertical lines. You can even wiggle it back and forth and create wavy lines or make swirling lines or any complicated patterns. Combing can allow you to experiment as you can combine different patterns.

Leathering:

This wall painting technique is easy as well as inexpensive. Leather-look on walls with paint gives an authentic and amazing look, which looks amazing in brown shades. You can achieve this look with inexpensive scrap paper like brown paper bags, newspaper, and tissue gift-wrapping paper.

Just rip papers into some random sizes and shapes. Apply these on walls with wallpaper paste, slightly overlapping each other. Press firmly and then smooth them such that there are no air bubbles, but cracks and wrinkles are ok and rather will enhance to give a leathery look.

Faux Bricks And Stone:

Having one wall with some exposed bricks or stones with just paint and a few rolls of tape can look cool and awesome. Paint the wall with a base color, which becomes the mortar or the grout lines. Allow drying for some 24 hours, such that the tape does not damage the surface. Use painter’s tape to outline shapes of bricks and stones, and when you have the desired look of stacked bricks and stones, use a level and ruler to ensure they are straight and even. You can have a rustic stacked stone wall with random round and oval shapes.

After taping, you need to paint the walls with the base color of the stones. Remove the tape before the paint dries and reveal the mortar line beneath. Sponge on walls using a mixture of 1 part glaze with 1 part of a slightly darker shade on parts of individual stones or the bricks to give depth and variation for a perfect faux bricks and stones look.
